The Underdog is now the Favourite

Scottish amateur singer, Susan Boyle, rose to International stardom when she delivered a shocking performance on Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday, April 11th. Mouths were left agape and eyes opened wide when out poured the lyrics to “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables. Everyone was skeptical when Ms. Boyle took the stage and informed the judges that she was 47 years old; everyone including the ever cynical Simon Cowell. However, after her stunning performance, Cowell evidently had a change of heart. It is reported that he is currently setting up a contract with Boyle on his Syco Music company label.

Boyle received a standing ovation from the audience and judges, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, and indeed Simon Cowell. Boyle, who has moved on to the 2nd round, is certainly in the limelight and enjoying the fame that a performance of that calibre brings; appearing on renowned TV shows like CNN’s Larry King Live, ABC’s Good Morning America, and NBC’s Today. Articles on Boyle have been written in The Guardian and The Los Angeles Times to name a few and social networking sites like Facebook have been instrumental in peaking her career. Elaine Paige, one of Boyle’s idols, has expressed an interest in singing a duet with her, expressing that she is “a role model for everyone who has a dream”.
